The Open University of Mauritius (OU) held its Convocation Ceremony from 09 to 11 June 2025 at the Trianon Convention Centre, awarding undergraduate and postgraduate degrees (including PhD), diplomas and certificates to over 1,100 graduates over four sessions.
Each session was honoured by a Chief Guest, as follows:
- 09 June: Dr the Honourable Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, PFHEA, Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research;
- 10 June (morning): His Excellency Mr KAN Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to Mauritius;
- 10 June (afternoon): Prof. Donald Ah-Chuen, G.O.S.K, Managing Director, ABCB Holdings; &
- 11 June: Her Excellency Mrs Abir Alam Eldin, Ambassador of Egypt.
In his speech, Dr the Honourable Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, PFHEA, Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, emphasised OU’s rapid growth and its mission of making education accessible to all, mentioning “The Open University is a university that has grown fast, and I’m certain that it will continue to grow to reach even greater heights.”
The June 2025 Convocation Ceremony marked the first graduating cohort of BA (Hons) Law, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Fisheries Management, and also had students graduating under the e-VidyaBharati and e-AarogyaBharati (e-VBAB) project, a scholarship initiative by the Government of India enabling Mauritian learners to pursue online degrees from top Indian universities.
