How to read & write Mauririan Kreol
(Examinable)
Many people use Kreol in their professional lives but need to gain more knowledge of its developments in written form. For example, Police officers write reams in Kreol every day and have done so for centuries. They already possess a profound practical knowledge of the Kreol language, including its written form. Yet they must make hundreds of tiny spelling decisions while taking down important content. The same well-nigh-impossible task faces transcribers of audio court recordings, stenographers, magistrates, and judges daily. But today, this difficulty is potentially over.
Standard orthography is already used in all primary schools. It is increasingly used in ministries such as health, housing, education, justice, fishing, agriculture, etc. Now, work contracts under the new labour laws are in Kreol, too.
This pioneering course offered by the Open University is designed for the broad public and professionals who need written Kreol to acquire the skill of writing in a standard, official, national orthography.
Course Certification: A certificate of accomplishment will be awarded upon successful completion of the Exam.
