The multidisciplinary annual conference, a collaborative effort between the College of Law and Management Studies and the Open University of Mauritius, originated from a casual conversation between Dr. Upasana Singh of UKZN and Dr. Govin Appavoo of the Open University in 2015.
It aims to convene academics and researchers across various fields to highlight global trends in an e-World and facilitate the advancement of leadership, capacity, and scholarship within the African region. The 2023 MIG conference centered on the impact of COVID-19 and the imperative for Sustainability.
With 72 delegates representing academia, business, and government, the hybrid conference attracted participants from South Africa, Mauritius, Croatia, Germany, and other African countries, offering a platform to promote African scholarship. The event fostered collaboration, networking, and scholarly exchange across disciplines such as Law, Management, Governance, and Information Technology, evident in the diverse range of topics covered.
Moreover, it provided emerging academics with an opportunity to engage in discourse with esteemed scholars, industry leaders, and government officials.
e-MIG 2023 received 102 abstract submissions, with 68 abstracts slated for publication in the Book of Abstracts and 12 full papers in the conference proceedings.
Noting the presence of notable dignitaries, including the Vice-President of Mauritius, the Director of International Affairs from the Ministry of Higher Education, and the High Commissioner of South Africa to Mauritius, the event highlighted active participation from UKZN colleagues, who delivered compelling presentations in person.
