The Community Engagement Cell (CEC) of the Open University of Mauritius is a dedicated team of academics, administrative staff, and students who engage with internal and external stakeholders, and organise several outreach activities to foster educational, socio-economic, environmental, cultural, health, and wellness benefits. While promoting social responsibility, CEC also aims to develop soft skills such as teamwork, public speaking, leadership, and empathy in learners. Some events are integrated into specific curricula to provide professional exposure to students.<\/span><\/p>\n Recent initiatives include:<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n\n
<\/b>BA (Hons) Communication, Media and Journalism students interacted with reporters in the studios of D\u00e9fi Media. They had enriching discussions about the impact of AI on journalism.<\/span><\/li>\n
<\/span>Storytelling, PowerPoint presentations, songs, games, and drawing activities were conducted by Library Science students to promote reading at the NGO Mkida. Their\u00a0 \u2018campaign\u2019 was\u00a0 themed “Reading Can Make You a Superhero.”<\/span><\/li>\n
<\/span>A vibrant\u00a0 panel discussion with eminent speakers\u00a0 on\u00a0 the theme\u00a0 \u201cAccelerate Action: Let\u2019s Break Stereotypes!\u201d\u00a0 was moderated by a student.\u00a0 \u00a0 Hon. Anishta Babooram, Junior Minister\u00a0 of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, graced the event. She was welcomed by Dr. the Hon. Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research.<\/span><\/li>\n
